Motor supply voltage: 550Vc.c;Current status: retrofitting in progress.Description: This is a 8/13 type of wire rod mill and produces wire rod&nbsp;of various diameters 9.5, 12, 15, 19 mmIt is composed of:-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Casting wheel-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Rod mill unit -&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Vertical coilers-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Electric and control system.Casting wheel:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Aluminium casting in the casting wheel is made horizontally through a stainless steel tundish that directs the liquid metal to the central area of the casting wheel.The casting wheel is driven by an asynchronous motor equipped with a frequency converter by means of a gearbox which was installed when the rolling mill was commissioned. (therefore a very old gearbox that causes frequent problems). For the closing of the casting ring, a steel strip of 100 mm width, 8400 mm length and 2.5 mm thick is used (16.5 kg). The turning wheel can be adjusted in all planes and is made as a wire wheelwhich is arranged at a distance of about 2500 mm and at an angle of 45 dgr to the casting wheel. By means of a worm gear the wheel can be raised or lowered to achieve strip stretching. The casting wheel cooling system isbuilt with special nozzles manufactured by Continuus which enable the cast bar cooling from 4 directions (2 lateral coolings working with a flow of 110 l/min, one internal cooling and one external cooling). The cooling system is a fully automatic system controlled by the process computer and it is able to adjust and maintain the water level set at the operator desk in a relatively short time. Rod mill unit:The mill is equipped with 13 rolling stands.It has a main drive and a second drive that create a kinematic chain capableof mechanically synchronizing the drive shaft speed of each individual stand. The motion is driven by a variable speed a.c. motor and can be controlled by the process computer. The casting wheel and the wire rod mill are synchronisedby means of the "Tandem" system which sends continuous information to the process computer. The electric motor transmission to the kinematic chain of the wire rod mill is achieved through belts and the system is not provided with braking system able to stop immediately the wire mill in case of clogging.As regards the mill and stands transmission, there are three systems which provide the optimum operating conditions:-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; stand lubrication system-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; transmission lubrication system-&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; emulsion injection and filtration system The systems are automatic and by design, they should be able to achieve automatically certain pressures (approx. 1.5 bar) that can be set from the operator control panel. There are no heating systems for the involved fluids, namely TIN 125 oil and emulsion (currently, the emulsion heating is provided by hot cast bar already rolling in the wire rod mill).Cooling system (Bertin):&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;The wire rod cooling system is able to perform its function, but with a high consumption of water and air. It does not require daily maintenanceactivities, such activities are only required during the planned repairs. The system is not automated at the moment and water and air are not automatically turned off when the wire rod mill is stopped, nor is it able to automatically achieve a certain wire cooling temperature (the temperature is adjusted manually by closing or opening the valves). Basically, it is a manually controlled system, and the operator's experience is the most important factor in adjusting the technological parameters (air and water flow and pressure). The system is not provided with monitoring and/or visualisation of air and water flow rates and the temperature of the wire rod at the inlet and outlet of the cooling system cannot be visualized.Main shear:The shear are a rotary shear with two knives and a pneumatic system that is able, during the technological flow, to respond very quickly to cut the wire rod when this is changed from one coil to another. We consider that the shear works in proper parameters without major problems in operation.Troughs for directing the wire rod to the two coilers:The troughs are made of metal sheet. One trough is fix and directsthe the wire rod to the second shear and the other trough is a mobile trough that directs the wire rod alternately to the two coilers. The mobile trough is operated by a pneumatic system which generally does not cause any problems.&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;Second shear:&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;The second shear is used for cutting scrap pieces of aluminium wire rod at the cast start and direct them outwards from the mill. At the moment, the scrap wire pieces are randomly thrown out the mill and into the room at a relatively short distance.Coilers:The coiler system consists of a fixed flange, a mobile flange and 6 segments that can move radially by means of a levellers mechanism. It is driven by a d.c. motor controlled by a variable speed drive viaa specially built gearbox. The coil is extracted manually.The winding is performed by means of a wire rod guiding mechanism. The wire guiding mechanism is operated by a hydraulic cylinder whose hydraulic power is given by a variable displacement pump which is driven directly by the shaft of the gearbox operating also the coiler itself.
